Frequently asked questions

Do I need an account to use Tacklebox?

No. Tacklebox has no account and no login. Everything you record is stored on your device and belongs to you.

Is there a subscription?

No. Tacklebox is free to download with two complete fishing sessions, and every feature is included in those sessions. After that, unlimited sessions are a single one-time in-app purchase, with no subscription. Your existing catches, photos and exports stay available either way. If you bought Tacklebox as a paid download before version 2.3, unlimited sessions are already yours; use Restore purchases on the Unlimited screen if they don’t show.

Is my data private?

Yes. There is no social feed and no advertising. Your catches and swim locations stay on your device, with optional backup to your own iCloud if you turn it on.

How do I log a catch?

Tap the + button on the tab bar, add a photo, then record the species, weight, rig and bait. Tacklebox stamps the weather at the time automatically, and you can tap your saved rigs and baits instead of typing.

How do I identify a species from a photo?

Add a photo to your catch, then tap the identification button on it to get suggestions from iNaturalist and confirm the match. This needs an iNaturalist connection, which you set up once in Settings → Connect data services by signing in on iNaturalist’s own page. Photo suggestions also depend on iNaturalist’s recognition access, and you can always choose the species yourself.

Does Tacklebox work offline?

Yes. Logging catches, sessions and waters works fully offline on the bank. Live conditions — tides, river levels and weather — need an internet connection to update.

How do I back up my catches?

Turn on iCloud sync in Settings. Your data is backed up privately to your own iCloud account, so it moves with you to a new device.

How do I edit or delete a catch?

Open any catch to edit its details, or delete it from the same screen. Because there is no account, deleting a record removes it from your device.

Privacy

Tacklebox keeps your fishing record on your device. It does not require an account, does not run ads, and does not sell your data. Optional iCloud backup uses your personal iCloud account. Live conditions features send your approximate location to weather and tide services to fetch local data; your precise swim location is never stored or shared.
