Tacklebox is a private fishing journal. It is built to keep your catches to yourself. This policy explains what the app does and does not do with your information.
The short version
Catches, photos, notes, gear, waters and sessions are stored locally and synced via your private iCloud. They are used only to show you your own records, and are never transmitted to us.
Only while using the app, and only if you allow it. Used to fetch local conditions — weather, sun and moon “bite window” times, nearby river levels, and coastal tides. The app requests reduced-accuracy location and does not store your precise fishing spot. To provide these features, your approximate coordinates are sent to the data providers listed below. You can decline location and still use the rest of the app.
Only when you choose. Catch photos you add stay on your device and in your private iCloud. If you use the optional “Identify species” feature, that specific photo and your approximate location are sent to iNaturalist to suggest a species. Photos are not sent anywhere else.
Tacklebox includes two free fishing sessions, followed by an optional one-time Unlimited in-app purchase. Apple processes payment. The purchase is verified on your device; we never receive your card or Apple Account details, and no receipt is sent to a developer server. There is no subscription. Resetting the journal does not reset the free-session count, and if you bought Tacklebox as a paid download before version 2.3, unlimited sessions are already included.
If you connect iNaturalist for photo identification, sign-in happens on iNaturalist’s own page and Tacklebox never receives your password. Connection tokens are kept in your device Keychain. Disconnecting removes the connection from the app, and you can also revoke access in your iNaturalist account.
Photo backups and Season Book PDFs are created on your device and shared only to destinations you choose. Backup files are not encrypted, so keep exported copies safe. The optional Live Activity shows session timing and catch count, without water names or catch photos. Your approximate location may be cached on the device to show bite-window times.
When you use the relevant feature, the app makes requests to these services, sending only approximate coordinates — or, for species identification, a photo. Each has its own privacy policy.
We do not sell or share your information with anyone for advertising.
Because your journal lives on your device and in your iCloud, you are in control. Delete a catch, a water, or the app to remove that data locally; manage or remove iCloud data from your device’s iCloud settings. We hold no copy to delete.
Tacklebox is intended for a general audience and does not knowingly collect information from children.
